Wednesday 4 May 2011 – Yorkshire Cup Final : Hull 18-25 Huddersfield

Hull made their first appearance in the final of the Yorkshire Cup against Huddersfield whom Hull had taken ten league points off during the season. Just over 1,000 people attended York RUFC’s Clifton Park ground to witness a very tough and full blooded cup final played on a rock hard pitch. After a tense first half Huddersfield led 9-6 at the break with James Cameron landing two penalty goals to Huddersfield’s three. Hull had also lost prop Adie Longbone to a dislocated elbow and unfortunately could not break a resolute Huddersfield defence despite having an extra man for the final ten minutes of the half following a yellow card issued for foul play. Huddersfield increased their lead to 12-6 before Hull scored an unconverted try from Rob Devonshire but two further tries from Huddersfield put them 22-11 ahead with only eight minutes remaining. Hull responded with another Rob Devonshire try on 75 minutes and Cameron converted with a superb kick from the touchline to make it 22-18 but two minutes from time a drop goal gave Huddersfield a winning margin of 25-18.

Hull drew their season to a close with a valiant but tired performance at Harrogate. An early penalty and unconverted try put the hosts in front and they extended the lead three minutes before the break with another unconverted try before Will Robinson scored a fine try, converted by James Cameron for 13-7 at half time. Kris Renwick scored his first senior try for the club within five minutes of the second half but Harrogate scored two quick tries through a tired Hull defence. Robinson scored again for Hull with fifteen minutes remaining but Harrogate replied with an unconverted try of their own before Hull finished the scoring through an Alex Piercy try.
