Hull RUFC vs Sheffield Tigers : Match Report

Hull failed to capitalise on a tremendous second half revival to falter in the last few minutes and concede two converted tries to lose 35-19.

Losing seven of their own lineouts and a yellow card contributed to their downfall but they still had the winning of the game in their own hands when losing 22-19 with a penalty in front of the posts that they declined in favour of the kick to touch in the second half.

Sheffield Tigers started the game at great pace and took just six minutes to get their first try through a catch and drive effort awarded to hooker Ben Crowe converted by full back Fenton. Just ten minutes later after Hull lost another lineout they made good use of the ball with a long pass putting winger  Jamie Judd in at the corner with Lonny Fenton making the conversion.

On twenty six minutes another catch and drive saw    Crowe touch down again and Fenton added the extras and Hull were looking in trouble. However after thirty five minutes Hull scored a great try after the forwards drove the ball to the line with Alec Renouf scoring under the posts with off half Harry Gunn McLean getting the conversion giving Hull hope at half time .

The second half saw Hull’s pack exerting a measure of control and after forty five minutes a mid field power burst by second row Liam Regardsoe and Loma Kivalu saw Regardsoe touch down under the posts with Gunn McLean converting.

Fifteen minutes later Hull were within two points of Sheffield when full back James  Farrar raced in from thirty yards out but the conversion went wide. Moments later Hull had the chance to go ahead through a penalty but declined that chance.

The last twenty minutes saw Hull go close but it was Sheffield Tigers who finished the stronger with tries to their winger Miles Dodsworth and number eight Tom Gladwin both well converted by Fenton to see his side comfortably home 35-19 putting Hull’s fate of relegation.
