All being well, Hull RUFC will welcome their latest player to their Centurion Club. Steve Johnson is currently on 99 not out and if selected to play against Sedgley Park next weekend, the centre will become the 32nd player to join the elusive club. This is Johnson’s second spell at Chants Ave and with the club sitting top of National 2 North, the centre is delighted to be a key part of the side.
“It’s a great feeling to reach the 100-game milestone for this club,” Johnson said.
“Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to have played with some really talented players and good people.
“We’ve been fortunate to have kept a good core of the group together for years now.
“Some of us went to Bishop Burton together so have played rugby together for many years!
“My first time at Hull just wasn’t the right time or fit for me, so I went to Scunthorpe initially on loan and ended up staying there for four seasons.
“We achieved some success with a great group of lads before I returned to Hull to start again.
“Genuinely we had no talk of being top of the table or any prospect of promotion, we quietly behind closed doors said let’s aim top four.
“We are taking it week by week treating every game as bigger than the last one as there are still chances to lose our place at the top if we don’t turn up every week and perform.”
