Steve McColl admits his passion for playing rugby is back after joining Hull RUFC in the off-season. McColl, originally from Scotland, joined the National 2 North side after spells at different clubs in England. The full-back was becoming disillusioned with the game, but after helping Hull win five of their opening six games, McColl is enjoying playing rugby again.
“It was a no-brainer when Gary asked me to come and play for Hull,” McColl said.
“It’s getting back into the game after having 18 months off and hopefully I can enjoy playing for Hull a bit more.
“I’m from Fife in east Scotland, north of Edinburgh. I’ve been in England for 13 years and I’ve still got my Scottish accent.
“I was at Doncaster and then Leeds, Gloucester and then back to Leeds and then Doncaster again.
“With the link between Clive and Gary, I came to Hull on loan before lockdown and I loved it.
“I enjoyed it because I wasn’t really enjoying my rugby and being here at Hull was a bit of fresh air for me.
“It’s a good bunch of lads and I love the game.
“This is a new league league for me, so it’s a bit of an unknown for me.
“But I’m sure Gary and Clive will have some videos for us on Huddersfield this week.
“I’ve played there before and it’s a nice spot.”
