Full-back Lee Birch admits he’s ready to play two games in three days as Hull’s season draws to a close.
Hull take on Wharfedale in the quarter-finals of the Yorkshire Cup at Bishop Burton on Thursday evening (7.30pm) before hosting Doncaster Phoenix at Chanterlands Avenue on Saturday in their penultimate league fixture.
Birch hasn’t been asked to play twice in three days for quite a while but hopes he and the rest of the players can perform at their best as they look to end the season on a high.
“It will be interesting playing two games in three days,” said Birch who scored twice in the 48-14 win on Saturday.
“I’ve not done that for about 10 years and it’s a big ask especially for the front row and the rest of the forwards.
“We go into the Wharfedale game on the back of a good win against Sandal when everything was cleaner and crisper than it was at Rossendale.
“It’s always nice to get a good win like that especially in a game between third and fourth place.
“It sets things up nicely for the Yorkshire Cup which is now our main aim for the rest of the season.
“We didn’t panic either and everyone stuck to their jobs and I just happened to be at the end of everyone else’s good play.
“There was pressure on us to win because they could have gone above us.
“We want to build for next season and this helps.
“It’s disappointing to think we could finish on 97 points and miss out on promotion.”
