Welcome to the Ferens Ground for our league fixture against our visitors from the West Riding, Sandal RUFC, who are visiting the Ferens Ground for the first time.
The last time we met Sandal in league rugby was in season 2003/04 in North Two East and in both those matches we were successful with a 30-16 victory at Milnthorpe Green and by 48-0 at our old Haworth Park ground. That was the season we were promoted into North One for the first time while Sandal hit hard times and were eventually placed in Yorkshire One. Since then they have climbed back and at the end of season 2014/15 they won promotion to National Two North after finishing just three points behind champions Sale. In that season Hull were relegated from the same division so our clubs never met at that level. Sandal had just one season at the higher level and at the end of the 2015/16 were relegated back into National Two North.
This season they have had a successful campaign having won fifteen and lost eight of their league fixtures and at the moment are in fourth position in the table, just four points behind ourselves.
In the corresponding fixture at Milnthorpe Green we won 35-27 and today’s game is likely to prove equally close.
