Club Historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. With rugby cancelled 5 years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stephen has delved further into the club records to pick out games played on this week 10, 15 and 20 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?
10 October 2015 – National Three North : Hull 31-16 Cleckheaton
Hull scored five tries to beat Cleckheaton in a game delayed by twenty five minutes in the first half with the game at 0-0 due to a serious injury sustained by Cleckheaton’s Gareth Lamb who was taken to hospital in an ambulance. After the delay a fracas at a maul resulted in a red card for visiting prop Paul Turner and a yellow card for Hull lock Dario Jurcevic. Despite being a man down Cleckheaton pressed the Hull defence and scored an unconverted try on the half hour mark followed by a penalty on the stroke of half time to lead 8-0 at the break. Three minutes into the second half smart handling from the Hull backs saw a good move finished off by Lee Birch. As Cleckheaton continued to infringe they lost another player to a yellow card followed by the referee awarding Hull a penalty try which Josh Bragman converted. The visitors responded with a penalty but Hull scored again in the 65th minute when Tomasi Tanumi provided the final pass for Will Robinson to score in the corner. Cleckheaton replied with a push over try three minutes later but Hull got the bonus point when Will Robinson scored again with ten minutes remaining. Bragman added the extras before Tanumi finished off another Hull move which again Bragman converted.

After the break full back Guy Martinson landed three penalties in the space of nineteen minutes to put Hull 9-7 ahead but with ten minutes remaining the Altrincham scrum half scored a disputed unconverted try to maintain their unbeaten league start to the season and leave Hull still searching for their first league victory.
