A tough start to Hull’s last three fixtures see them travel to Harrogate for a game that will have a massive bearing on Hull’s survival chances in rugby union’s National 2 North.
Hull looked relatively safe just after Christmas and a resounding win against Preston Grasshoppers seemed to signify better times ahead. However, a loss of form exacerbated by injuries and the unavailability of key players has seen Hull slip down the table.
Hull will need to focus for 80 minutes, which will mean cutting back on their penalty count as this has consistently cost them a disproportionate amount of possession in many games this season. It is also a fact that Hull have lead in many games this season, but have been unable to close them out and they have the ability to put an end to that trend this week.
Hull’s pack has been able to give a good account of itself at scrummage time and their lineout work has improved steadily all season. Several players have shown up well making their way past the gain line, but the side needs to make the most of those situations.
The backs have been hit hard by injuries and Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz could play in the centre or on the wing if he has recovered from his shoulder injury.
To take the points this weekend, Hull’s kicking game will be vital and every time the ball is kicked, it needs to be accurate and put real pressure on the opposition.
Hull not only need to win on Saturday but will need a bit of help with results around the other grounds to help them move a place or two up the table. They beat Harrogate at home before Christmas and a repeat performance would be very welcome this weekend.
