Club Historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. With rugby cancelled 5 years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stephen has delved further into the club records to pick out games played on this week 10, 15 and 20 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?
4 April 2015 – National Two North : Hull RUFC had no game this weekend.
3 April 2010 – National Division Two North : Hull 20-20 Huddersfield
Hull fought back from a second half deficit but could not prevent the visitors from securing a draw with a long rangepenalty in the final minute. Huddersfield scored first with an early penalty before Laurence Pearce beat three players to give Alex Piercy the space to finish for Hull. James Cameron missed the conversion but slotted over a penalty three minutes later. Heavy showers made handling difficult and Huddersfield capitalised with a converted try shortly before half time to lead 8-10 at the break. The visitors scored again at the start of the second half with a fine solo converted try to extend their lead to nine points.
Hull came back strongly and after good work from the pack Piercy scored his second try following a well created overlap on the left wing with twenty minutes remaining. With three minutes to go captain Chris Murphy gave Hull the lead when he finished another strong push from the pack. However it was the final kick of the game that stole the draw when Hull were penalised for an illegal tackle just inside the half way line that Huddersfield’s Chris Johnson kicked for a share of the spoils.
