Pack Dominate To Get Back To Winning Ways

Hull ran out winners despite going 17-0 down after a quarter of an hour in a thrilling game. Two tries in the final 18 minutes secured the victory that saw the home side gift Lymm two tries.

Lymm took a first minute lead when Kimber charged down Reece Dean’s clearance kick. Pilkington sailed in for a 12th minute before winger Williams adding a third on 16 minutes with off half Shard converting one of the tries to see the visitors ahead 17-0 after 20 minutes.

Hull responded well and their controlled forward play enabled them to make use of good positions in the Lymm ‘22’ with three tries from close range catch and drives. Hooker Mike Jobling was first over the whitewash on 25 minutes.

Second row Paulos Latu scored Hull’s second try after 30 minutes before prop Tom Bairstow capped off another catch-and-drive in the final minute of the first half. Off-half Reece Dean converted one try to see Hull level the scores at 17-17 at half-time.

The second period saw Lymm’s off half Shard and Hull’s Dean exchange penalties before a brilliant interception try by Lymm scrum-half Morris – converted by Shard – edged the visitors ahead 27-20 after 57 minutes.

Hull gathered themselves again and a kick from Lymm fell to full back Jamie Shaul who sidestepped and swerved past five defenders on his way to a fantastic try converted by Dean to level the scores at 27-27.

Both sides had moments of pressure but despite losing a couple of line outs Hull were winning the scrums and when they made the most of a catch and drive 15 yards out, it was prop Charlie Beech who powered his way over for a try converted by Dean. Despite a late rally by Lymm, Hull held out to get back to winning ways.
