Ben: Discipline Will Be Key Against Sedgley Park

Top of the table clashes are arriving at Chants Ave as often as London buses. None for ages then two come along in the space of three weeks. After beating Rotherham, who were Hull RUFC’s nearest rivals on March 5, Sedgley Park are now in second spot looking to close the gap on the leaders which currently stands at six points. Another bumper crowd is expected at Chants Ave and prop Ben Bootham believes discipline could be the difference between winning and losing.

“Discipline will be key on Saturday as Sedgley Park are a team that will capitalise on any mistakes we make,” Bootham.
“We just need to keep doing what we’re good at, let the pack set a good platform and dominate the set piece ready for our backs to light up the pitch and do what they do best which is score tries.
“Against Rotherham, we were down to 14 men after a stupid mistake made by myself which I will hold my hand up for, but it shows how much we’ve come as a team to then come back and close the game out with seconds remaining.
“I definitely owe Reece a pint for that one!
“It’s a huge game this weekend for us.
“Obviously their position in the league makes it for a more tasty game, but to be fair, regardless of opponent or league position, each game from now until the end of the season is bigger than the last.
“We need to keep performing and keep building and raising the bar for each game.
“None of our remaining games will be easy they never are when every team is out to get us.
“Every team will want to take our scalp, but that is something we will relish as it’s the fruits of all our hard work throughout the season.
“If we don’t back it up by winning results then those hard fought games like Rotherham and Wharfedale count for nothing.”

The boys are excited and will be fresh after the weekend off.
