Hull RUFC director of rugby Gary Pearce admits he is pleased with how pre-season training is coming along ahead of the new season.
The players are back at training after being given last week off as a reward for the efforts they have put in during the first five weeks when they have been put through their pacers.
Pearce believes the first month of the season could be crucial to any team’s goals this season and has urged his players to make the most of pre-season in order to hit the ground running.
“I’m happy with our pre-season training,” Pearce said. “The players are looking fit and the first month of the season will be very important.
“It will depend on which teams can put out their best teams because Covid and there will be a lot to contend with as a result of the pandemic.
“The players have had no contact in training for a long time and we’ll know soon enough if three friendlies will be enough.
“If we can come through them relatively unscathed, we will be aiming to pick up a few wins to get us on our way.
“Last week was a week off for the players after five hard weeks and it has been a strange time with some players having to isolate and it’s going to take a while to settle down.
“It’s definitely been the toughest year I’ve had to deal with.”
