2nd Team, Home

Andy assesses Seconds’ season so far

The season so far – despite starting the season with some good wins in friendlies we have found life difficult, or should I say, made life difficult in our opening two league games.
We started away at withernsea and that resulted in a 33-33 draw in a game we really should have won.
We didn’t take a lot of our chances despite piling on the pressure in the last 15 mins or so, and our defence was very complacent at times.
The second match was last weekend against ionians at home, which resulted in us getting beaten heavily.
The first half performance from us was quite poor, ionians scored all of their points in the first half.
Then we went on to win the second half 10-0 and finished with a very well worked last minute try, but it was too little too late.
The squad is looking ok and we receive good support from some of the ‘first team squad’ but what we do lack is consistency.
One week we might have 22 players, the next week we scrape 15, which is an issue when people get tired and cannot take a break and that’s when we start to struggle.
We are pushing to get the lads training on a Thursday night, the ones who turn up certainly get through some good work and are benefitting from the sessions, the more we can train together the better we will perform on a Saturday.
We have a free weekend this weekend and I believe next weekend too, so we will look at getting some extra training sessions in and hopefully come back with a bang after a couple of weeks off.
