2 April 2016 – National Three North : Hull 51-16 Huddersfield YMCA
Hull gained revenge for their defeat earlier in the season with a great performance to beat Huddersfield YMCA at the Ferens Ground. Both sides scored early penalties with Tomasi Tanumi successful for Hull. There was no further scoring until the 26th minute when Hull’s Harvey Harding made an excellent break and when the ball reached Lee Birch he went past three defenders to score a fine opening try which went unconverted. Three minutes later Tom Price took a pass to run in and score before a brace of Huddersfield penalties got the visitors back into the game for 13-9 at the break. But Hull cut loose in the second half as Jim Wigglesworth sidestepped his way to a fine try converted by Tanumi after 43 minutes followed immediately by Birch setting off on a mazy run before off-loading for Josh Bragman to stroll in for a try again converted by Tanumi. On 50 minutes a neat inside pass saw Will Robinson race in for a try before yet another break by Birch resulted in Ali Heard storm over for Hull’s sixth try in the 55th minute with Tanumi converting both. Another inside pass after 60 minutes saw Dan Hague in for Hull’s seventh try before Huddersfield finally added some points of their own with a converted try ten minutes from time. But Hull pushed on again and finally fashioned a catch and drive from a lineout and drove over the line for an eighth try credited to Ben Sullivan to round off the afternoon.

Hull cruised to a comfortable win in a seven try victory that condemned visitors Rugby to relegation. Hull were without the influential James Cameron but took the lead in the 5th minute when James Greene scored an unconverted try. Five minutes later Hull were in again when Matt White went over in the corner for another unconverted try. The Hull pack were dominating the visitors and the home side added two further unconverted tries in the 22nd and 25 minutes, both scored by flanker Rob Devonshire, before Hull scored their fifth try in the 37th minute when scrum half Ollie Hardisty fed Greene to score his second try beneath the posts for Guy Martinson to convert. The second half was a scrappy affair although Hull kept control and added two further tries in the 48th and 69th minutes from winger Alex Piercy, the first of which was converted by Martinson, as Hull collected maximum points ahead of two derby games in four days.

New Zealander Shaun Higginson started the scoring with a try converted by Waylon Tangohau after just seven minutes and eight minutes later a combination of Danny Smith and Guy Martinson ended with the full back sending in his brother Dan Martinson to score. Again Tangohau added the conversion. Three minutes before the break Dan Martinson found lock Gareth Jackson to score in the corner and a third conversion from Tangohau gave Hull a 21-0 lead. Straight from the restart Tangohau finished a good move to score under the posts and he added the conversion to put Hull 28-0 up at the break.
