Club Historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. With rugby cancelled 5 years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stephen has delved further into the club records to pick out games played on this week 10, 15 and 20 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?
5 March 2016 – National Three North : Hull 44-19 Rossendale
Hull secured a convincing 44-19 win over Rossendale at the Ferens Ground despite losing fly half Josh Bragman who was injured in the warm up and replaced by Tomasi Tanumi who stepped into the position and gave an accomplished performance. Rossendale applied the early pressure and scored a converted try following the third minute yellow card shown to Hull’s Richard Brown. Once back to full strength Hull replied with an excellent solo try from Will Robinson who beat three defenders for an unconverted try on 17 minutes although the visitors response was another converted try of their own. But with their scrum dominating Hull took charge of the remainder of the first half with Tanumi kicking a fine penalty after 27 minutes and then converting a Ben Sullivan try after 31 minutes. Six minutes later Robinson made 50 yards before passing to Ali Heard who went over for 20-14. The second half saw Hull take charge started by an unconverted try from Nazir Karim in the 43rd minute. On the hour mark Lee Brown scored a further try converted by Tanumi and seven minutes later Karim grabbed his second try which Tanumi again converted. Rossendale scored a consolation try but the last word went to Harvey Harding with Hull’s final try after 80 minutes.

5 March 2011 – National Division Two North : Westoe 31-19 Hull
Hull were beaten by a solid Westoe side at Dean Road who maintained their second place in the league alongside having the meanest defence so far this season. Westoe were quick out of the blocks and scored two tries in the opening twenty minutes, one converted for a 12-0 lead. Hull upped their tempo and Ollie Cook peeled off the scrum for a classic No.8 try with James Cameron adding the conversion for a 12-7 half time score. Westoe scored early in the second half with a converted try but straight from the restart Alex Piercy scored an excellent interception try which Cameron again converted. Another close range lineout for Westoe brought a bonus point try which went unconverted but five minutes later the home side settled the game with a converted try to lead 31-14. Rob Devonshire finished the scoring after another lineout drive to bring an end to an entertaining game.
