This Week’s Memory Lane ………………..10, 15 and 20 years ago
20 February 2016 – National Three North : Birkenhead Park 16-14 Hull
Hull went down to a last minute penalty defeat on a rain sodden pitch at Birkenhead Park. It was the home side who adapted better to the conditions early on as they scored an unconverted try after just three minutes and extended their lead with a penalty after 24 minutes. Hull responded with a series of lineouts close to the Birkenhead line and Ben Sullivan managed to score an unconverted try to bring the visitors back into the game and only three points adrift. However it was the hosts who scored next following a driving maul just before half time. The second half saw continued Hull pressure and Josh Bragman kicked three penalties on 64, 71 and 75 minutes to put Hull 14-13 ahead. However Hull failed to secure the ball from the kick off and after five minutes of pressure Birkenhead won the match 16-14 with a last minute penalty.

19 February 2011 – National Division Two North : Hull 9-31 Fylde
Hull fell to defeat against in-form league leaders Fylde who ran out 31-9 winners at the Ferens Ground with both Jason Robinson and Bill Beaumont watching from the sidelines. James Cameron opened the scoring with a penalty for Hull after seven minutes but Fylde replied with a converted try five minutes later before Cameron landed another mid-range penalty to take the deficit back to one point. But with ten minutes of the half remaining Fylde’s quick switch of play resulted in an unconverted try and with minutes of the half left both Jarrod Williams and Ben Dorrington were sin binned for technical fouls but Cameron scored a crucial drop goal for a half time score of 12-9 in favour of the visitors. But after the break Fylde were dominant and a further three unanswered tries, two converted, gave the visitors a 31-9 win on the road.

18 February 2006 – North One : Chester 39-5 Hull
Two Chester penalties and a try in eleven minutes of second half stoppage time produced a somewhat flattering final scoreline but Hull left Cheshire on the end of a 39-5 defeat. It took Chester just nine minutes to open the scoring with a converted try and they added two further converted tries before half time. The home side went further ahead with a converted penalty try on 49 minutes and it was not until the 65th minute that Hull grabbed their only score through fly half Waylon Tangohau’s unconverted try. Chester piled on the points in added time to end a disappointing afternoon for the visitors.
