Hull RUFC vs Sheffield RUFC: Match Report

Hull put up a brave fight against runaway league leaders Sheffield but the visitors were just too strong for a Hull side that fought to the end .

Hull started brightly and a flowing move from deep was rounded off by winger Jamie Shaul and converted by full back Reece Dean as early as the twelfth minute to give the home side  the lead. Sheffield responded but it was only after thirty five minutes that a try to their number eight Robert Fawdry which went unconverted saw the gap narrowed but with  Hull still two points in front .Hull summoned pressure of their  own and in the dying seconds of  the first half they were awarded a penalty which was kicked by full Reece Dean to see leading 10-5 at the break.

The  second half saw league leaders Sheffield start  to have the edge in  most phases of the game and as the penalty count mounted in Sheffield’s favour then found scoring opportunities.

after just ten minutes of the second half their centre Matty Drennan touched down for a try converted by his off half Callum Posa  to see his side in the lead for the first time. Hull’s prop Charlie beech was then yellow carded putting Hull at a significant disadvantage and Sheffield’s number eight crashed over again  for a try converted by his off half Posa .The final score of the day went to Sheffield’s winger George Castledine giving his side a final winning score of 24-10.
