A close game which went down to the final seconds was won by a Hull side that carried on where it left off last week playing open rugby and defending with great determination against a lively Fylde side.
the game was just five minutes old when Fylde off half Hunt chipped ahead for centre Danny Cassidy to catch the ball and put his number eight Mike Walton in under the posts for a try converted by Cassidy. Hull responded within a minute as full back Reece Dean converted a forty yard penalty after Fylde infringed at the kick off. Hull then took the lead after ten minutes when a penalty award saw them win the ensuing line out and create space wide out for centre Tom Minns to evade three tackles touch down with Reece Dean adding a well struck conversion.
In an end to end game it was Fylde who scored next from a short range lineout with number eight Walton being awarded the try for an unconverted try to see his side ahead 12-10 but a twenty eighth minute penalty by Hull’s Reece Dean restored Hull’s lead, albeit by just one point after twenty eight minutes . Two minutes later Fylde again used the chip Ahead to great effect as winger Adam Lanigan sped over for a fine try converted by Cassidy.
As the half was drawing to its close there was a burst of scoring as Hull’s Paulos Latu firstly cleaned up scrappy ball at a scum ten yards out from the Fylde line to off load it to scrum half Joe Adams who dummied his way over for try converted by Dean. Moments later with prop Charlie Beech on for Hull a scrum ball was moved left with Tom Minns squeezing through a gap for his second try , again converted by Dean to see Hull 27-19 ahead after thirty eight minutes . A dramatic end to the half saw Fylde’s Cassidy receive the ball twenty yards out after a quick tap penalty and race in under the post for a try which he converted to see his side just one point adrift at 26-27 at half time.
The second half saw both sides create chances but none were taken until Hull kept possession and drove forward forty yards with prop Loma Kivalu barging over from short range to the right of the posts with off half Joe Cummins deputising for the injured Dean , adding the conversion to see Hull 34- 26 ahead with ten minutes left . Fylde were still in with a chance and when centre John Dorrington rounded off a good handling move after another quick tap penalty for an unconverted try Hull had five minutes to hold out Fylde, which they did to record their second victory in as many weeks.
