Hull RUFC vs Fylde RUFC – Digital Programme

The digital version of our game day programme for our tenth home game of the 2025/26 season with Fylde will appear here.

Today’s Visitors : Fylde RFC

A very warm welcome to the Ferens Ground for this National Two North league fixture against our visitors from the Lancashire coast, Fylde Rugby Club.

Founded in 1919 the club have progressed steadily and played in the national leagues since the formation of the league structure in the late 1980’s. Nowadays the Woodlands Memorial Ground has an impressive clubhouse with upgraded facilities to ensure the club maintains its position as an important part of the local and regional community.

Many notable players for the club are extremely well known names to rugby followers and include the former England and British & Irish Lions captain Bill Beaumont, a one club man who joined in 1969 and Brian Ashton who as Head Coach guided England to the 2007 World Cup final. Malcolm Phillips is a former England international and was President of the RFU as well as serving on the International Rugby Board. Steve Bainbridge and Wade Dooley both played for England and a young Roger Uttley started his rugby career at Fylde before representing England and the British & Irish Lions.

Today is only the 13th meeting between the two clubs. We first met in season 2009/10 and won both fixtures 31-25 at home and 16-25 away. The following season was a promotion season for Fylde and they won both fixtures 37-8 at home ( in a game in which 2003 World Cup winner Jason Robinson played for the hosts ) and 9-31 at the Ferens Ground. We didn’t meet again until season 2019/20 when we ended an 8 game winless run with a fine 20-22 victory at the then league leaders. The reverse fixture fell victim to the cessation of rugby due to the Covid pandemic.

In our historic promotion season 2021/22 we beat Fylde 22-14 at home and 26-28 away as we gained promotion to National One for the first time in our history. We returned back to National Two North in 2023/24 when our game at Fylde in December was postponed due to a frozen pitch. We played the rearranged fixture in early January 2024 falling to a 35-8 defeat before beating Fylde in a high scoring entertaining fixture 39-36 at the Ferens Ground in April. Last season it was a win apiece as we won the home fixture 23-21 and fell to defeat 35-13 away at Fylde.

This season 2025/26 Fylde beat us 40-29 in September and they arrive at the Ferens Ground currently sitting 6th in the league table with a playing record of played 14, won 9, drawn 3 and lost 2.

Enjoy the game.
