Club Historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. With rugby cancelled 5 years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stephen has delved further into the club records to pick out games played on this week 10, 15 and 20 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?
16 January 2016 – Hull RUFC had no game this weekend.
15 January 2011 – National Division Two North : Nuneaton 9-27 Hull
Hull came away with victory in their first away match of 2011 after an excellent performance which the home side could not handle. James Cameron landed a penalty after just ten minutes and although Nuneaton enjoyed long periods of possession and scored a penalty they failed to get over the try line and Hull took advantage when Alex Piercy took a smart pass from Cameron to score an unconverted try on the half hour. Cameron finished the half with another mid-range penalty following an illegal challenge but after the break Nuneaton cut the deficit with two early penalties. Cameron then kicked a drop goal followed by a penalty with fifteen minutes remaining which also resulted in a yellow card for a Nuneaton player. The loss of a man gave Hull more space and winger Will Robinson used his pace to score a try converted by James Kirk who also landed a last minute penalty to seal victory.

14 January 2006 – Powergen Intermediate Cup 5th Round : Morley 35-12 Hull
North One rivals Morley came out on top at Scatcherd Lane to progress to the next round after beating a Hull side without regulars Sammy Anderson who was a late withdrawal, the cup tied Gareth Jackson and the unavailability of Steve Bates. The home side opened the scoring with an unconverted fifth-minute try but nine minutes later Hull were ahead when Warren Perkins went through a gap to score a try which Waylon Tangohau converted for a 7-5 lead. Two penalties in five minutes put Morley 11-7 ahead and on 33 minutes a converted try resulted in the home side leading 18-7 at the interval. The second half belonged to the hosts and they added a penalty on 46 minutes, a converted try seven minutes later followed by another converted try in the 66th minute to lead 35-7. Hull battled to the end and in the dying seconds Tangohau scored an unconverted try to end the match.
