Hull were not able to overcome losing four of their own lineouts , an adverse penalty count of 12 to 5 and the loss of their influential number eight Evi Uriburu-Grey after half an hour as they went down to a well drilled Hull Ionians side 29-0.
The visitors started brightly and in just the seventh minute a quick tap penalty caught Hull unawares from thirty five yards out and winger Jimmy Mc Daniel touched down for Hull Ionians first try. Six minutes later after another penalty award Hull Ionians catch and drive was followed by some slick handling to see the opposite winger Cam Burnhill in for another unconverted try. Hull then had a good period of play but a missed penalty attempt after sixteen minutes and then a great break by full back Joe Cummins that came to nought as the ball went to ground after thirty minutes left the home side with nothing to show for their efforts seeing the visitors leading just 10-0 at the break.
The second period saw Hull on the backfoot for much of the half putting in a huge tackling stint but with most of the ball going to the visitors chances eventually came Hull Ionians way . In the forty ninth minute a well timed pass saw substitute back Jack Townsend sprint under the posts with full back James Watt converting .Six minutes later former Hull RUFC player , Hull Ionians number eight Adam Brankley charged down a kick gathered the ball and ran fifty yards to score an unconverted try in the left hand corner . Another seven minutes elapsed before the visitors fashioned a good catch and drive after yet another penalty and kick to touch for a try awarded to hooker Ben Stephenson to see Hull Ionians convincing winners 29-0.
