Hull won a game that saw the lead change several times and overcoming a workmanlike Otley side and a late yellow card to win just their second game of the season .
Otely took an early lead through their fullback ,and former Hull player Hobson with a third minute penalty. Hull’s Reece Dean cancelled that out after fifteen minutes to level the scores .Despite losing back rower Noah Marshall early in the game Hull were exering pressure on the Otley scrum and getting good field position. They made good use of their territorial advantage in the twenty sixth minute when back row forward Alec Renouf made a thirty yard burst to within ten yards of the Otley line. When ball was recycled to prop Charlie Beech, he made no mistake bullocking his way over for a great try that went unconverted but saw Hull leading 8-3 after twenty six minutes. Otley lost no time in responding as they made the most of a penalty award and took the ensuing lineout and a catch and drive try awarded to C. Mc Cormack saw the scores level once more. The score changed hands again with Otley adding another catch and drive try awarded to their number eight Irvine and converted by Hobson. Hull added another penalty goal by Reece Dean to see the visitors go in at half time leading 15-11.
the second half saw both sides go close to scoring a try but the deadlock was broken in the sixtieth minute when Hull winger Jake Boardman out paced the defence after a turnover in his own half and a chip forward saw Reece Dean on hand to touch down and convert his own try to see Hull leading 18-15 after sixty minutes.
A tense final quarter saw an exchange of penalty goals with two going to Hull’s Reece Dean and one to Otley substitute Rowntree to see Hull home by 24-18
