Club Historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. With rugby cancelled 5 years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stephen has delved further into the club records to pick out games played on this week 10, 15 and 20 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?
5 December 2015 – National Three North : Hull 21-22 Sheffield Tigers
Hull were edged out 22-21 in a terrific game against league leaders Sheffield Tigers at the Ferens Ground. Hull opened the scoring with a Josh Bragman penalty in the first minute but Tigers replied with an unconverted try and a penalty in a seven minute spell before another Bragman penalty after 35 minutes reduced the arrears to two points at half time. The visitors extended their lead ten minutes into the second half with a converted try which was followed by Joe Stafford scoring from a catch and drive from a lineout for an unconverted try. Bragman then rounded off a break started by Lee Birch to score on 77 minutes and put Hull into the lead by a point. But in the last few minutes the visitors scored a converted try and despite Evi Uriburu-Gray getting over the try line the failed conversion left Hull a point short.

3 December November 2005 – North One : Huddersfield 23-10 Hull
Hull’s six match unbeaten run came to an end on a heavy pitch at a wet and gloomy afternoon in West Yorkshire. Huddersfield took the lead with a third minute penalty which saw Gareth Jackson, making his second debut on his return from Hull Ionians, sin binned by Driffield referee Simon Lazenby. Jackson was followed shortly afterwards by Nomani Tonga and just before the half hour a second Huddersfield penalty put them 6-0 ahead. Six minutes later winger Danny Smith scored an excellent interception try running almost the full length of the pitch to score an unconverted try for a half time score 6-5 to the hosts. Within five minutes of the restart Huddersfield added a drop goal but it was two converted tries in the 73rd and 78th minutes that won the game for the home side. Hull mounted one last attack and Guy Martinson crossed for an unconverted try to end the scoring.
