Memory Lane With Stephen Hodgson

Club Historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. With rugby cancelled 5 years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stephen has delved further into the club records to pick out games played on this week 10, 15 and 20 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?

13 November 2010  – National Division Two North : Hull 102-3 Manchester

Hull produced a record breaking display to demolish Manchester and set three new club records of which two still remain today. The 102-3 win remains Hull’s biggest ever win and the 16 tries scored also remains a club record. The 11 goals scored by James Cameron in the match also set a new club record but has since been surpassed by the 12 goals scored by Simon Humberstone at home to Kendal in season 2018/19. Adi Longbone finished a close range catch and drive inside three minutes which opened the floodgates for the home side. A sole first half penalty was the only reward for the beleaguered visitors who trailed 48-3 at the break but their spirit and battling qualities brought respect and applause at the final whistle. For Hull the 16 tries were scored by James Greene (4), Will Robinson (3), Max Lewis (3), Tevita Vaikona (2), James Cameron, Adie Longbone, Rob Devonshire and Maea David with James Cameron converting 11 of the 16 tries in a totally one-sided game shorn of any competition once Manchester were reduced to 14 in the first half.
