Hull entertain near neighbours Scunthorpe this weekend in a game both sides will want to win. Whilst it is early in the season with plenty of time for recovery neither side wants to remain at the wrong end of the league table. Scunthorpe have not managed a win so far this season but have some very close games losing by just one score to Hull Ionians and just one point to Sheffield Tigers. This would suggest that their first win maybe not be so far away.
Hull had a good win against Billingham three weeks ago but then had a couple of disappointing defeats albeit with injuries and an erroneous sending off to contend with which was overturned on appeal.
Hull welcome back Lawrence Cowan-Leak to their pack and his form this season suggests that he will make a difference to Hull’s all round performance. Despite to loss of outstanding prop Gareth Denman to injury Hull will still field a very good front row of Charlie Beech, Jack Bergmanas and Loma Kivalu. Number eight Paulos Latu is unavailable this weekend so newcomer Noah Marshall, who performed well in the second row and showed good mobility last week moves into the back row this week to join Evi Uriburu-Gray and Laurence Cowan-Leak with Mike Jobling and Alec Renouf as the lock forwards.
The backs remain the same as last week whilst the bench sees the return of Tom Minns whose strong running as centre or winger could well have a big impact when he comes on. the same could be said of scrum half Joe Adams and forwards Oliver Fretwell, Danny Ward and Dale Ellerby who made some very good hard yards against the best team in the league last week.
Hull have had whatever is the opposite of the rub of the green so far this year. If they can avoid the worst that lady luck has thrown at them up to now, they can record a second victory this weekend .
