Hull went to a fourth defeat despite completely dominating the set piece and scoring five tries . Fylde’s quicksilver backs found enough space to create openings which brought six tries and enabled centre Adam Cassidy to add five well struck conversions .
The home side started with the wind in their favour and with Hull conceding penalties too frequently a quick tap saw centre Sam Stott touch down after twelve minutes with Cassidy adding the conversion. Five minutes later as Hull conceded their eighth penalty Fylde’s number eight Lanigan stormed over for a try converted by Cassidy to stretch the lead to 14-0. Things got worse for Hull when centre David Halafonua was yellow carded on 19 minutes as Hull gave away another penalty. However Hull raised their game and despite losing second rower Liam Regardsoe to injury with front rower Danny Ward replacing him they were next to score when number eight Paulos Latu off loaded brilliantly with full back Harry Gunn-McLean sidestepping his way in for a good unconverted try. Better was to come when David Halafonua returned and took a neat pass from off half Reece Dean to crash over under the posts for a try converted by Reece Dean to see Hull right back in it.With half time approaching and Hull looking to bring on prop Charlie Beech it was Fylde who eased ahead on half time with a try by number eight Fairbrother converted by Cassidy to see the home side ahead 21-12 at the break.
The second half saw Fylde score an early try through centre Cassidy who was unable to add the conversion after forty eight minutes to put his side 26-12 ahead. Hull responded eight minutes later ,as despite losing second row Regardsoe , they were in complete control of the scrummages getting regular penalty awards. A kick to touch and an unstoppable catch and drive saw prop Charlie Beech smash his way over with Dean adding the extra two points . Fylde responded with two well taken tries as their backs continued to threaten with full back Turner and centre Cassidy getting the tries both converted by Cassidy to see Fylde in control at 40-19. It was Hull’s powerful pack who had the last laugh as they continued to get regular scrum penalties . The resulting kicks to touch and line outs saw them thunder over for two more tries in the seventy fifth and seventy ninth minutes both awarded to prop Loma Kivalu to end up losing 40-29 but taking home a well deserved bonus point.
