Club Historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. With rugby cancelled 5 years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stephen has delved further into the club records to pick out games played on this week 10, 15 and 20 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?

Hull failed to take advantage of the conditions in the second half and two converted tries in two minutes gave Stockport a 17-0 lead. With ten minutes remaining Joe Stafford crashed over for a try, converted by Josh Bragman and at the death Joe Martin scored a quick tap penalty, again converted by Bragman to finish the scoring 17-14 to the visitors.

An end to end encounter at Haworth Park resulted in a victory for the visitors and left Hull still searching for their first league win of the new season. The unavailability of many players and a 14-2 penalty count contributed to the defeat as well as a disallowed Guy Martinson try just before half time. The Merseyside team led through a 19th minute penalty before a converted try after thirty five minutes gave them a 10-0 half time lead. An early second half penalty extended the visitors lead following another home transgression but just after the hour winger Danny Smith scored for the hosts with Martinson adding the conversion to make it 13-7. Martinson then provided the opening for Smith to score his second try and close the gap to a single point. But the visitors clinched victory in the last couple of minutes with an unconverted try for the concluding score of the day.
