Club Historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. With rugby cancelled 5 years ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stephen has delved further into the club records to pick out games played on this week 10, 15 and 20 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?
2 May 2015 – Hull RUFC had no game having finished the season.
1 May 2010 – National Division Two North : Macclesfield 50-17 Hull
The final match of a long league season took Hull over to Cheshire to play champions-elect Macclesfield who maintained their 100% home league record with a convincing 50-17 win. Their victory at Kendal the following weekend confirmed them as champions. Two early tries for the hosts set the tone for this match and Macclesfield pushed home their advantage with a penalty and another try before Darren Wigg got Hull on the scoresheet with an unconverted try just before half time. An early second half try for Macclesfield extended their lead but Hull exploited a man advantage following a Macclesfield yellow card awarded for a dangerous tackle on Chris Murphy when Darren Wiggg sprinted through a gap to score which James Cameron converted. Macclesfield responded immediately with a try which was followed by Rob Devonshire going over and raising hopes of a bonus point for Hull. However it was the hosts who completed the scoring with a converted try for the Blues sixth try of the match.
