On a day when Hull’s long serving front row player Mike Jobling played his 248th game and became the club’s all-time leading appearance holder, he was unable to celebrate as Hull slipped to a third consecutive defeat at Fylde.
Whilst Hull dominated possession they lacked the cutting edge of Fylde who scored five converted tries. Hull took an early lead when full back Fynlay Hobson kick an 11th minute penalty.
However the lead was short lived when Hull quickly lost two line outs, conceding possession which resulted in a try for Fylde’s Jordan Dorrington, converted by Will Hunt to see his side ahead 7-3. Just two minutes later Ben Turner scored from a clean line break with Hunt converting.
Hunt was yellow carded after 20 minutes and although, Hull were unable to take advantage of their numerical superiority, they did score a good try through winger Harry Dawkins after 35 minutes.
Hull’s habit of giving away tries just before half-time came back to haunt them with Fylde scoring two tries in the three minutes before the interval through their number eight David Fairbrother and scrum-half Ben Gould.
For the second period, Hull introduced centre Sam Warburton as he made his debut. The second half saw Fylde’s number eight get a second converted try after 65 minutes to see his side well ahead at 35-8.
As the game neared its conclusion, Dawkins scored his second try when Fylde were reduced to 13 men. Hull’s defeat sees them in the bottom two sides and in a real relegation battle.
