Hull started the game so well but despite scoring three tries in the first period, they fell behind on the stroke of half-time and failed to score a point in the second half which Chester dominated to run out comfortable victors.
Hull were quick to make their mark when their forwards drove the ball well from a lineout releasing their backs with centre Harry Dawkins rounding off a very good move for a try converted by Fynlay Hobson.
The home side immediately surrendered possession at the kickoff and after a penalty award to Chester their off half Morgan Bagshaw, kicked the goal to see his side trail 7-3. Hull were playing with some confidence at this stage and Harrison Astley chased his own astute kick through in the right hand corner for an unconverted try after 13 minutes.
Chester’s Bagshaw chipped away at the Hull lead with a 23rd minute penaltyand the visitors were always trying to keep the ball alive and they found a gap in Hull’s defences after 27 minutes to see their winger Dafydd Williams race in for an unconverted try and his side just a point behind at 12-11.
Hull then scored another good try after a scrum midfield on the halfway line with Hull’s winger Josh Ratuvuo touching down in the 31st minute for an unconverted try. However, just when it seemed Hull would go in leading at half-time Chester took full advantage of a couple of Hull handling errors to put winger Ben Ivory in for a try converted by Bagshaw right on the half-time whistle to his side a point clear at 18-17.
The second period saw Chester step up a gear and almost immediately they sent winger Ivory in for his second try and then in the space of 10 minutes they added two more tries through substitute Harry Craven and back row forward Harry Roberts.
Hull tried to get back into the game but as they forced the pace errors crept in and it was Chester who scored the only other try as Craven went over in the 70th minute. Bagshaw converted one of the four second half tries to see his team ease home 40-17.
