Club historian Stephen Hodgson takes us on a trip down memory lane every week of the season. Stephen picks out matches the club played on this week from 5, 10 and 15 years ago. It continues to be a popular read with former and current players. Do you feature this week?
29 February 2020 – National Two North: Hull 20-14 Otley
Hull secured their fourth league win in a row in a narrow victory over struggling Otley at the Ferens Ground. Otley took an early 6-0 lead with two long range penalties but it didn’t take Hull long to reply with Mike Adlard racing clear to score under the posts. Simon Humberstone added the conversion and Hull led 7-6 after thirteen minutes. Both sets of forwards battled hard but both defences held firm and the scoreline remained unchanged at half time.
Hull edged further ahead through a Humberstone penalty on fifty seven minutes but Otley regained the lead through an unconverted try to put themselves 11-10 ahead. The lead changed hands again when Humberstone kicked another penalty on sixty seven minutes to set up a thrilling finale. With four minutes remaining centre Stephen Johnson rolled away from a maul to plunge over the line and Humberstone’s conversion saw Hull ahead by a comfortable margin of 20-11. A late Otley penalty gave the visitors a deserved bonus point at the end of a very close game.

27 February 2010 – National Division Two North: Caldy 36-12 Hull
Hull were undone by a strong home pack and were on the wrong end of some refereeing decisions in a 36-12 defeat at Caldy. Danny Smith scored for Hull after three minutes when he intercepted a pass inside his own half for a try which Guy Martinson converted. Caldy were back on level terms five minutes later with a converted try and they scored two more converted tries for a 21-7 half-time lead.
Hull came back strongly in the second half but Danny Smith was yellow carded for a high tackle before Alex Piercy scored for the visitors. Five minutes later Rob Devonshire was sin-binned for an alleged illegal tackle and Hull were down to thirteen men. Caldy scored from the next play with a converted try and with five minutes remaining they added to their lead with a penalty before finishing the scoring with another unconverted try.
