15 February 2020 – National Two North: Hull 34-21 Sheffield Tigers

Hull took advantage of the strong wind in the first half to build up a lead that proved insurmountable to visitors Sheffield Tigers. Harvey Harding opened the scoring, dummying his way over for an unconverted try after seven minutes. Five minutes later Hull stole a Tigers lineout and powered to the try line for Charlie Beech to force his way over another unconverted try. Hull continued to make good use of the wind and Laurence Cowen drove over for the third try just before the half hour mark.

It was soon four tries when hooker Ali Thomson made a 40-yard break before offloading to Ali Heard to break two tackles and score. Hull were in complete control and just before half time Will Hall went over for an interval lead of 29-0. With the visitors now having the wind advantage in the second half Tigers scored two early tries but Simon Humberstone darted through a gap to score and extend Hull’s lead after fifty eight minutes. As the game entered the last quarter Sheffield added a third try to finish the scoring but it was merely a consolation.

Hull produced a tremendous defensive performance to nil Leicester Lions and move out of the National Two North drop zone. Hull started well when Greg Lound played a neat pass for winger Stephen Hihetah to score after nine minutes. Lound converted a penalty on twenty three minutes to push the hosts further ahead before chipping ahead for Phil Eggleshaw to score an unconverted try and a 13-0 half time advantage.

Hull started the second half with great urgency and Eggleshaw powered over for his second try on forty four minutes with Jamie Foster adding the conversion. Hull’s defence held firm against the visitors efforts and on seventy two minutes Lound broke clear and gave Ali Heard an easy try under the posts, again converted by Foster for a convincing 27-0 scoreline.

13 February 2010  – National Division Two North: Loughborough Students 41-17 Hull

A depleted Hull missing the suspended Chris Murphy and injured James Cameron, Robin Kitching, Laurence Pearce and Rob Devonshire were defeated by league leaders Loughborough Students although Hull’s chances were not helped by having three players sin-binned in a hard fought match. Hull scored in the first five minutes with a great solo try from Danny Smith, converted by Guy Martinson. A dangerous tackle from Maea David resulted in a yellow card and a converted penalty to the hosts and they took the lead two minutes later with a solo try of their own.

Hull regained the lead five minutes later with a Guy Martinson penalty but Loughborough came back with a second try and extended their lead just before the break with another try.  Both sides had a player yellow carded just before the interval for an altercation after a series of combative rucks, Hull’s Darren Wigg receiving a ten minute sin bin. Ten minutes into the second half Students scored another try and another illegal tackle earned Hull’s Danny Smith the game’s last yellow. Tevita Vaikona scored a consolation try in the last ten minutes but two further tries for the hosts earned them the bonus point win.
