First Half Injuries Hinder Hopes In Sheffield

Hull lost to promotion-chasing Sheffield RUFC despite a second-half recovery, but their hopes were hampered by a series of injuries to forwards Paulos Latu and Evi Uriburu-Grey, who both left the field in the first half.

The visitors started well with full-back Fynlay Hobson kicking a penalty after three minutes, but Sheffield struck back with tries by back row forward Hughes and Adcock both being converted by scrum-half Fisher to see the home side ahead 14-3 after just 13 minutes.

After Hobson hit the post with a failed penalty attempt, it was Hull’s centre Bureta Faraimo who burst through to score a fine try to narrow the deficit to 14-8 after 27 minutes.

However Sheffield’s winger Hopper touched down right on half-time for an unconverted try to see his side leading 24-8 at the break.

The second half saw an early Hobson penalty for Hull add three points to Hull’s tally, but Sheffield responded within 60 seconds with hooker Campbell getting a try converted by Fisher to see his side pulling away at 31-11.

Two more tries for Sheffield by Drennan and Fawdray after 59 and 64 minutes with Fisher converting the latter sandwiched a fine solo effort by Hull winger Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz. which was not converted. A late surge by the visiting team saw substitute winger Josh Ratuvao just failed to score a bonus-try point and see the home side comfortable 43-23 victors.
