Hull RUFC Vs Leeds Tykes – Match Preview

Hull take on league leaders Leeds this weekend after their win against fifth-placed Wharfedale last week. Leeds are top of the league by the narrowest of margins, being on the same points as Lymm and one point ahead of Sheffield.

Leeds started the season dominating most sides in that early period but have found life more testing as the season has gone on. Their last two games saw them win by less than a full score against Hull Ionians and Billingham.

They have lost just one game this season to Lymm and beat Sheffield by just a point. Hull ran both those sides very close on their own ground and will be in good heart after last week’s result and performance.

It has become clearer over the season that if the Leeds side are given space and running opportunities, they know how to score tries and can be very dangerous.

However, they have been winning by very small margins of late and there is hope of an upset this week, if Hull can play with the same verve and tactical awareness they showed last week.

The squad will have the addition of newly-signed winger Jake Boardman for the coaches to consider as they work out the starting line up for this match.

Hull showed precision with  some excellent handling, not least from the kick-off when a 25-phase move including every player saw them score the first try.

This game will be a real test for the Hull side who lost by a margin to Leeds back in September, but their best will be good enough to give Leeds more than a little to think about.
