Hull Ionians Vs Hull RUFC – Match Preview

Saturday will see this keenly contested derby game take place once more at the Hull Ionians’ ground at Elloughton.

It promises to be a closely fought and intriguing contest. Hull Ionians have won five games so far this season whereas the visitors have four victories to their account.

Hull Ionians were runaway winners at Hull earlier in the season but since then, whilst Hull have been inconsistent, they have beaten sides at the top end of the division including Fylde and Wharfedale.

Hull Ionians have had some good performances notably beating Chester, Sheffield Tigers and Preston Grasshoppers all teams who have beaten Hull.

Outside the top three sides, predicting results in this league is impossible so Hull will travel the 10 miles from their own ground with confidence, but also being wary of the real threat Hull Ionians will pose.

Hull have recently welcomed back their try-scoring winger Mike Adlard who notched up two touchdowns last week and looks in good form.

This week full back/winger Fynlay Hobson should return to the squad and centre/winger Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz will undergo a late fitness test to see if he can bolster Hull’s resources.

Scrum-half Joey Barratt should also take his place  after a two-week lay off due to injury. In the pack, second-rower Anthony McCormack returns and will be in contention.

Last week Hull’s set piece was solid, but the game was ultimately lost with a couple of errors that resulted in tries to Tynedale.

Hull will need to make sure that their defence is solid for 80 minutes this week, and if they can achieve that they have the try-scoring ability to come away with points in this most keenly fought rugby union derbys.
