On a day when if Hull had kicked their goals the would have taken the lead just after half-time, it was Tynedale who built on their interval lead, with a good second half performance to run out relatively comfortable 38-17 winners. A puncture on the way to Tynedale was a bad start to the day.
An early converted try by Tynedale was quickly answered by Hull when winger Mike Adlard made ground and passed inside for Hull’s back row forward Adam Brankley to touch down for an unconverted try.
A few minutes later, Adlard was in the action again scoring a great try from an astute interception. Off-half Harrison Astley converted to see Hull take the lead 12-7.
However it was Tynedale who ended the half the stronger with tries from their winger Roberts and a well-rehearsed catch-and-drive try both of which were converted by Grant to see the home side 21-12 leaders at the break.
The second period started well for the visitors, despite having the bad luck to see a penalty rebound off the posts. Adlard almost immediately went on a brilliant run ending in a great try which went unconverted to see Hull within striking distance at 21-17.
However, in the remaining 30 minutes, it was the home side who finished the stronger. They scored three unanswered tries in that period. After 50 minutes another catch-and-drive effort was awarded to second row man Wearmouth which was not converted. Late tries from centre Grant and winger Roberts with Grant converting the latter effort, saw his side ease home 38-17.
