Sheffield Tigers Capitalise On Second Half Yellow Card

Hull lost a game they were leading at half-time as they failed to control their own lineout ball, kicked away too much possession and had a key player yellow carded early in the second half.

Hull conceded an early penalty which Sheffield Tigers off-half Mark Ireland converted after just three minutes. Hull bounced back and a forceful lineout after a penalty took them up to the Tigers line where number eight Adam Brankley dived over the ruck to get the try well converted by full back Fynlay Hobson after just five minutes.

Sheffield kept plugging away and had two Ireland penalties to see them leading 9-7 with just 10 minutes left of the half.

Hull had always looked to move the ball and after 31 minutes a long pass from Hull’s off-half Harrison Astley enabled his left winger Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz to run 30 yards and dive over in the corner after 31 minutes.

A late penalty by Hull’s full back Hobson giving Hull a 15-9 lead at the break.

The second half saw Sheffield Tigers score an unconverted try through their full-back Will Baker after just three minutes to cut Hull’s lead to one point.

Five minutes later Hull’s influential number eight Brankley was shown a yellow card and Sheffield took full advantage with an immediate Ireland penalty and then seven minutes later a try by their prop Gareth Denman  after 56 minutes.

Hull’s coaching staff rang the changes with the replacements bench being introduced but to no avail. There was one further score going to the Tigers in the form of a converted try in the 73rd minute.

Try as they might Hull were unable to unlock the Sheffield defence losing 29-15 without the comfort of a bonus point.
