Hull won a hard fought game which was a tribute to their great defence and the ability to create try scoring opportunities.
A second minute Hull penalty by full-back Fynlay Hobson saw Hull scored the game’s opening points.
Four minutes later a scrum on the halfway line saw scrum half Sam Crane draw the defence and put winger Peter Hudson-Kowalceiz away who ran 50 yards before offloading to Hull’s number eight Adam Brankley to race away for an unconverted try.
Hull had a let off after 14 minutes when Fylde seemed to be going in for a try under the posts after stealing a Hull line out but knocked on over the line.
Fylde made no mistake after 22 minutes using their catch and drive after a penalty award to see second row Mike Walton power over for a try converted by off-half Patrick Bishop.
Hull responded after 33 minutes when after a powerful break by centre Bureta Faraimo was ruled to have been held up over the line.
in the next play, Adam Brankley picked up and drove over to score his second unconverted try which saw Hull leading 13-7 at half-time.
The second half saw Hull introduce winger Mike Adlard in place of Harry Dawkins. The game restarted much like the first half with Hobson kicking a penalty for Hull to put his side 16-7 ahead after 43 minutes.
Hull then seemed to lose focus and lost a couple of line outs and faltered due to handling errors which brought Fylde back into the game.
A penalty to Fylde resulted in a further catch and drive from a lineout, and when the ball was moved left, full-back Jordan Dorrington raced through near the posts for a try converted by Bishop to narrow the gap to two points in Hull’s favour.
After 53 minutes Fylde took the lead when more close range pressure saw prop Peter Altham score a try converted by Bishop putting Fylde in the lead 21-16.
Hull then brought on scrum-half Harvey Harding, prop Charlie Beech and back rower David Halaifonua for Sam Crane, Jamie Major and Evi Uriburu-Gray as Hull sought to gain the upper hand once again.
The tactical switch brought quick results as a break from a lineout just inside Hull’s half saw winger Hudson-Kowalewicz race away before reverse passing to centre Faraimo who crashed over near the posts with Hobson converting to see Hull in the lead 23-21 after 63 minutes.
A final frantic last 15 minutes saw both sides spurn scoring chances with Hull holding out to win and record their third victory of the season 23-21.
