Hull lost a game they were in control of at half-time as two yellow cards and a penalty count of 15-3 tipped the balance in the league leader’s favour.
Lymm secured the kick off and an early penalty saw them with a lineout on Hull’s line, but having lost it on their own throw they immediately gave away a penalty at the other end which Hull’s winger Fynlay Hobson converted after six minutes.
Hull kept up the pressure and a scrum on the half-way line saw Hull’s number eight Adam Brantley break clear and then the ball was moved right for Hobson to finish off the move with a fine unconverted try.
Lymm were next to score when a good catch-and-drive preceded by yet another penalty saw their number eight Oliver Higginson touch down near the post with his off-half Tim Shard converting after 20 minutes.
Six minutes later Hull’s Hobson kicked a penalty and then Hull’s off-half Harrison Astley scored a try following his own sublime chip ahead with Hobson adding the conversion to see Hull leading 18-7 at half-time.
A scrappy start to the second half ended when Lymm retained the ball and goods handling saw their winger Patrick Jennings touch down with Shard adding the conversion to see his side just four points adrift after just 53 minutes.
Hull were then on the back foot for much of the rest of the half losing Mosese Nasilasila, who had come on as a substitute forward and Duell Trueman to yellow cards and being on the wrong side of a mounting penalty count.
The visitors were able to make their numerical superiority count with unconverted tries from short range awarded to prop Matthew Hand and backrow man Joshua Hadland in the 61st and 71st minutes. A late attempted drop goal and penalty attempts by Shard were well wide seeing his side still win with Hull having to be content with just a bonus point.
