A lot has changed since Sam Crane last played for the club. The scrum-half’s last game before his return against Sheffield RUFC last weekend, was in the promotion-winning season in 2021/22. Crane is back from Australia for a couple of months and he hopes he can play a positive role before heading Down Under again. Crane got 40 minutes under his belt last weekend and is enjoying his time back among friends.
“It’s really nice to be back,” Crane said.
“I arrived back in the country the previous week (Tues) trained that Thursday, got two training sessions in before the Sheffield game and it was good to get 40 minutes of rugby.
“The last game I played was in National 2 when we won promotion. I left for Australia after that season.
“A lot has changed since I was last here. The way we play now suits me a lot more. “When we had a bigger pack, it was slower and similar to Sheffield.
“We have a lot of young lads and it’s good to express ourselves and have a go.
“Sheffield was our game to win and to lose. We had opportunities to win it, but they managed to stick it out.
“It’s been five weeks or so since my last game in Australia, so I’ve had a good rest.
“I was surprised at how much I was blowing against Sheffield to be fair.
“It was quick and I thought I was fit, but the ground was heavy and contact was a bit harder.
“I’m getting used to how we play.
“It was made easier when everyone around you is talking a lot. Everyone is keen to get their hands on the ball.
“If I can hear everyone, I just have to make the right choice.”
