Adam Brankley was the outstanding player at Wharfedale when Hull RUFC picked up a 34-24 win. The back row forward scored two of the visitors’ four tries and he played a crucial role in setting up another try. The former Bishop Burton student believes few teams will go there and put in a performance like they did. This is Brankley’s first season at this level and after making a great start to his time at Chants Ave, he has one regret.
“I feel I should have made the transition a lot sooner when I was a bit younger,” Brankley said.
“This is the highest level I’ve played at and I’m 28 now. My body is knackered but I’m really enjoying it at Hull RUFC.
“I knew some of the lads from Bishop Burton like Ali and Jobbers.
“At Wharfedale, we were up against it from the start, and there won’t be too many teams come here and put 34 points on them.
“The injury to their prop may have been a factor, as we got firing after the restart and they didn’t.
“It was nice to get my hands on the ball.
“In previous weeks, I felt I had my head in a ruck for the majority of the time. So it was nice to get my hands on the ball and show people what I can do.
“The momentum changed from the first three games with a few more older heads coming into the team.
“We are starting to gel after the first few games and we are finding our feet.
“The young lads have stepped up well and for some of them, this is their first experience of senior rugby.
“It’s a massive step up to level four rugby.”
