Wharfedale v Hull RUFC Preview

Hull will take heart from their first victory of the season last Saturday when the overcame a battling Billingham side by 40-26 but not before Billingham, who dominated the second half, had caused some unease amongst the home supporters with their three unanswered tries in the second period.

Wharfedale have had victories against Sheffield Tigers, Harrogate and Tynedale whilst their only defeat was to Otley last week.

That record is one Hull must respect, but given their own result against Otley and last week against Billingham, Hull will travel with real hope of getting something from this fixture. Last season, a heavy reverse in this fixture was followed by a very good victory in the return fixture so there is no obvious form guide.

Hull will have back row Paulos Latu with them and will be looking to him to continue his form of last week. Second row Liam Regardsoe will need a late fitness test to see if he can start and Will Hall may be back in the squad after three weeks to bolster the back row resources.

Centre and captain Ali Heard, an ever-present this season is away, but Buretta Faraimo should be back to give the selectors options in the centre while the versatile Duell Trueman, who can play centre, wing or full-back comes into the reckoning.

Hull’s first-half performance last week showed just what can be achieved when they have the momentum and few sides would have relished playing them on that form.

However, they will need to keep up that kind of pressure for 80 minutes if they are to beat Wharfedale who have a very good home record.
