Ali: It’s About Time I Scored

You wait over a year for a try and then two come along in back-to-back games. That’s the case for Ali Heard who ended a long drought for his 45th try for the club in the defeat to Leeds Tykes. On Saturday, try number 46 came along in a 40-26 win at home to Billingham, which means he won’t have to do the traditional naked run at the end of the season for those who fail to score a try. The skipper says it’s about time he went over the whitewash.

“It’s about time I scored a try or two. I don’t know why I haven’t scored,” Heard said.
“I’m sure my wife is happy that I don’t have the naked run to do at the end of the season.
“It’s no good beating Billingham and then losing to Wharfedale. We have to push on from here.
“We’re disappointed in the second half performance, they had a bit of a wind advantage and they used that well.
“It was frustrating for us that we weren’t able to build on our first half performance and play the right way, getting down to their end of the pitch and playing from there.
“We had good go forward ball and it’s an easy game to play when you have that.
“It’s really good to get that first win of the season, especially after the heavy losses we had over the previous couple of weeks.
“The season had to start against Billingham, we had to win.
“We were at the bottom of the table so it was massive to get five points.”
