The Yorkshire Post has told us that it has been 16 long years since Yorkshire fought and won rugby union’s county championship title. Yorkshire’s men’s and women’s teams will both play for their respective trophies after both came through their semi finals at Hull Ionians’ Brantingham Park a fortnight ago.
Hull RUFC will provide five players in the Yorkshire men’s squad who will take on Kent at the headquarters of English rugby, at a ground where every player would love to have the chance of showcasing their skills – Twickenham.
Props Tom Bairstow and Jamie Major, centre Ali Heard, centre/winger Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz and utility back Harrison Astley all played well in the previous rounds and will be quietly confident that they can help the White Rose county to victory.
No cup final is easy and it will take all Yorkshire’s strength and ability and good old fashioned Yorkshire cussedness to bring the trophy home.
We wish our players and all the members of this successful Yorkshire side the very best of luck as they seek to triumph for the first time in 16 years and bring the English Counties Rugby Union Championship back up north!!
