Pete Taylor: Don’t Miss The Latest Chapter In This Roses Rivalry

Hull Ionians’ Brantingham Park gets to host the latest chapter in rugby union’s biggest rivalries, when the Red Rose of Lancashire meet the White Rose of Yorkshire. Yorkshire’s forwards coach Pete Taylor has played in his fair share of Roses clashes and as a coach is hoping to plot Lancashire’s downfall tomorrow. The fact that nine local players from the top two clubs in the area will feature in the men’s game (3pm) is an added ingredient to attract a large crowd. Taylor believes Yorkshire will be better than they were last weekend when winning 33-31 at Somerset.

“For those who haven’t watched a Yorkshire/Lancashire game before, it’s been a battle, a rivalry for as long as I’ve been playing,” Taylor said.
“Whatever the outcome, it will be a fantastic game to watch.
“It will probably be better for the neutral, especially if it goes by what has happened in recent years, it will go right to the wire.
“For local fans of rugby union, come down, it’s a great day out with two games on, the women’s game first (1pm), followed by the men’s game (3pm).
“This is the third year in a row that Yorkshire have faced Lancashire in a winner-takes-all type scenario.
“Last year, Lancashire nicked it, but the year before that, we nicked it.
“We have prepared as well as we can for this game.
“We’re very happy where we are at.
“The lads were outstanding at Somerset last weekend.
“It was Somerset’s second game while it was our first.
“Hull having five lads in the squad and Ionians with four, it’s fantastic for the clubs.
“It’s worked out very well that this game is being played at Hull Ionians’ Brantingham Park.”
