Joe: It’ll Be Great To See Supporters Of Both Clubs Cheering On Yorkshire

Every year after the domestic league seasons come to a close, the Bill Beaumont County Championship kicks in. It’s a time to put club rivalries to one side and join together to become County champions. That’s the goal for Yorkshire who face arch-rivals Lancashire tomorrow at Hull Ionians’ Brantingham Park. The Women’s game starts at 1pm, followed by the men’s game at 3pm.

In the men’s game, nine players from Hull RUFC and Hull Ionians will join together for the White Rose county hoping to secure a win that will see them advance to the final at Twickenham on June 15. Joe Makin is one of those nine players and the experienced forward is hoping to play a massive role in a famous win on his home ground.

“We’ve prepared for this game like it’s a normal game,” Makin said.
“It’s a short campaign, just two games with hopefully a third to come.
“We won a tough game at Somerset and we want to improve on that performance.
“It’s one down and hopefully two more to go. Lancashire is a big hurdle.
“It’s comfortable coming here for me as I’ve played a lot of games here.
“The game should bring out a decent-sized crowd, the women’s game is on before so it should be a great day.
“It’ll be great to see Hull RUFC and Hull Ionians fans together cheering on the same team.
“Both teams have a few players in the squad.
“It’s one team, playing together at the end of the season. We’ll see a lot of supporters from all over Yorkshire watch this game.
“Hopefully we get the win and move on to the next game.”
