With two games to play and a midtable finish secured, you might think there was little to play for. Try telling that to Billy Addy who is looking to make the most of the final two fixtures of the season, at Sheffield RUFC tomorrow and at home to Otley on Saturday, April 27. Addy has spent a lot of the season recovering from injury. Firstly a knee injury, then a shoulder injury, but last weekend he was back playing ahead of schedule in a thrilling 39-36 win at home to Fylde. The second rower, who injured his shoulder in the reverse fixture with Fylde, wants to get as much out of the end of the season as possible.
“I couldn’t have asked for anything better on my return to action,” Addy said.
“A win, a tight game which made me work out my shoulder and a full 80 minutes after 12 weeks off.
“”I’ve been sat on my cough waiting to get back playing. While I’ve been off, I’ve been doing loads of running to keep fit, so I could slot back into the team.
“I think I only starting blowing after about 70 minutes. I’m probably fitter now than I was before.
“The last time I played Fylde, I got my shoulder injury, they tonked us that day.
“To do that to them at home is great and it shows we have come on leaps and bounds from January.
“I’ve had two spells out injured this season, one with my knee and one with my shoulder.
“We can win the last two games comfortably if we play to our capability.
“This weekend is in my home town of Sheffield so that will be nice and then Otley with a big night out after that to mark the end of the season.
“We have a good squad coming through like me and a few others.
“Last season I was the youngest and I learned a lot from everyone around me and this season I’ve been passing whatever I can down to the young lads from Bishop Burton that I already know who are coming into the squad.
“Last season I was a bit lighter and a lot fitter. This league is a lot less running, more tactical.
“We’re a lot more tightknit this season because we have won games whereas last season it was very doom and gloom.”
