30 March 2019 – Northern Premier Division : Hull 67-14 Sandal

Hull bounced back from the narrow defeat at Harrogate the previous week to beat Sandal at the Ferens Ground. Hull took the lead in the 5th minute when Mike Adlard scored an unconverted try in the corner and after 24 minutes he raced away for his second try which Simon Humberstone converted. Sandal responded well with a converted try but then had Ashley Norbury red-carded in the 32nd minute for foul play and almost immediately Stephen Hihetah ran 70 yards to score and give Hull a 17-7 half time lead.

After the break Hull scored three converted tries in 5 minutes as Stephen Hihetah, Keane Naylor and Mike Adlard all crossed the line. After 50 minutes Sandal scored a converted try before Adlard scored two more tries himself, one converted by Humberstone. In the final 10 minutes the floodgates opened as Mike Adlard completed his double hat trick and Stephen Hihetah then completed his own hat trick before Mike Jobling scored the final try with Simon Humberstone ending with six conversions for a resounding 67-14 final score.

Leicester scored another unconverted try after twenty minutes but Hull responded with a Hayes penalty followed by a converted try from the off-half. Leicester pushed Hull back again for a converted try after full back Jamie Barnard was yellow carded but it was Hull’s 14 men who finished the half stronger.

Substitute prop Irving crashed over and Hayes added the conversion to give Hull a 27-19 lead at the break. The second half started badly and within ten minutes Leicester had overturned the lead. Hull lost Devonshire and Irving to injury but substitute Ben Dorrington scored two tries, one converted, to put Hull right back into the game. On 17 minutes centre Ollie Norman sent in Guy Martinson to touch down and James Cameron added the conversion. Three minutes later Martinson defused a steepling kick and fed Ade Wadforth who sent in Matty White with Cameron adding the touchline conversion.

Three minutes later flanker Darren Wigg showed speed and class to make a break, fed Norman and again White was in support to score with Cameron adding the conversion for a 21-0 half time score. Stockport scored an unconverted try on 50 minutes to get on the scoresheet but with 12 minutes remaining Makoni Finau hacked a dropped ball forward and Wigg took up the chase and gathered to score with Cameron converting.
