Securing a bonus point in the final seconds of Saturday’s game at home to Rotherham, was the very least the players deserved. For 80 minutes, they played their hearts out against a side that are going toe-to-toe with Leeds Tykes for the National 2 North title. Director of Rugby Mike Umaga was delighted with the intensity and desire his players showed and hopes that with four matches to play, they can finish the season on a high.
“Parts of the first half was some of the best rugby we’ve produced all year,” Umaga said.
“Being able to sustain it, we didn’t quite do that.
“The intent was there and you’ve got to give credit where it’s due, Rotherham were always going to come out strong in the second half.
“Half-time might have come at a bad time for us.
“We had a plan and we stuck to it. We focused on stifling them but three quick tries finished the game off.
“There were some really good performances from guys.
“Paulos Latu has been a revelation since moving to the back of our scrum.
“I have to give credit to the tight five and the back row who keep working hard.
“I thought Harrison was really good too. All the back chimed in and exploited some holes and we got the rewards.
“Four games to go, let’s finish on a high. Let’s try and get better in those remaining games.”
