Harrison: Composure Has Been Key To Three Straight Wins

On Saturday, Hull RUFC travel to Lymm looking to win their fourth game in a row. The previous three wins against Preston Grasshoppers, Billingham and Wharfedale have lifted the team to eighth in the table. All three wins have come with Harrison Astley starring at fly-half. The former Bishop Burton student is enjoying his new role and wishes their good form had come earlier in the season.

“It’s a shame it’s taken this long to do it, but we might as well keep it going,” Astley said.
“Saturday’s win showed that if we stay composed and keep our heads and play the simples well, then we can get through any team in this league really.
“The first half in particular, we were in shape all the time.
“All the forward pods were hitting well hitting the rucks and we just kept the ball well.
“We didn’t lose our heads like we have done in some games, so it was important we stayed composed.
“I’m finding things a lot better playing at fly-half.
“It’s three wins from three while playing there, so it’s working well.
“Even when I was playing on the wing, I was eyeing it up and I wanted a go at it.
“I kept pestering Mike about it a lot, so it’s nice to be given a chance there.”

There remains one thing left to find out about Astley. Anyone who attends matches may hear team-mates call him Baz. So where does the nickname come from?
“When I was at university, people were looking at giving me a nickname,” he said.
“So it went from Harrison to Harry to Barry and then finally Baz.
“Five years later, it has stuck.”
